BT Book Club, it’s August!

A new month means a new book for the BT Book Club!

After a successful start to our new segment with McNally Robinson Booksellers and July’s pick:  “The Prairie Bridesmaid” by local author Daria Salamon, we’re continuing this month with another debut novel from a female author.

Now, we will officially launch August’s book next week on Breakfast Television, but if you want to get a head start on the book, you’ve come to the right place!

August’s book is “The Secret Daughter” by Shilpi Somaya Gowda.  This book explores themes of loss, motherhood and identity.  At least that’s what it says on the back of the book.

I just started reading it, so I can tell you what I think too…  I’m already captivated by the story.  It takes place jointly in India and in America, primarily following two women.  One woman, who is forced to give up her baby girl in a culture that reveres boys.  And the other, who yearns to be a mother, but after suffering multiple miscarriages decides to adopt a baby girl from India.

Obviously that’s just a snippet, so pick up the book at McNally (or your local library) and join our book club!

Then… if you have an opinion of the book, either positive or negative,  send us your review to citysays@btwinnipeg.ca and we might share it on the air!  It’s a perfect way to join in the conversation, without much commitment!

Keep watching BT as we officially unveil August’s BT Book Club pick, “The Secret Daughter” next week to learn more!

Heart.

    Good Afternoon Jenna,

Congrats on your bookclub! Nice idea.
I’m still working with the THIN AIR Festival, would you be interested in doing one of our books in September? Would you be interested in doing any interviews for that matter?

I have already sent a list to Laura but figured I’d mention it to you as well.

    Take care,

    Michael Van Rooy

    Hi Michael,
Sounds like you’ve been chatting with our producers regarding some BT guests for the Thin Air Festival, can’t wait to chat with Sandra Birdsell!
I’m sure we’ll be seeing you soon.
Also, feel free to join the BT Book Club and read The Russlander along with us… we’d love to hear your review ;)
