Drew’s Reviews: Silver Linings Playbook

What’s it about: After coming home from a mental institution, a guy works to rebuild his old life (wife, job, family) but turns to a neighbour for guidance with equally debilitating social problems. Mix in some potty-mouth, an unforgettable dance sequence and a quick blend of comedy and drama, and you got yourself a great date movie!
Who’s in it: Bradley Cooper (The Hangover), Jennifer Lawrence (Hunger Games), and Robert De Niro (New Year’s Eve).
When’s it out: November 21st, 2012

The Good: Laugh out loud jokes in very inappropriate scenarios…social no-no: asking a depressed widow how her husband died the first time you meet her. The zip between Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence’s characters is fun, witty, and touching. (Almost) Every time when you think this will be a typical Rom-Com, you will be surprised.
The Bad: Very mainstream and enjoyable for a film fest movie (Toronto Film Fest Fave), but maybe a little to “film festy” for a mainstream film. If it could’ve been shaved down by 20 minutes for theatre-goers it would’ve been perfect!
The Verdict: Great story, amazing acting, but no real surprise finale. Still an excellent movie and a great way to remind yourself that your relationships aren’t so bad.

Worth $10.00 of your $12.00 movie ticket
