I have lived at my Norwood flats home for almost 9 years and part of the backyard is covered with grapes and every fall they are ripe and tasty but I never do anything with them ! Someone told me that you can’t make wine from Concord grapes years ago and I took their word for it and never tried. Today in our “Grape to glass” wine segment I was informed that yes you can make wine from Concord grapes and it’s called “Mission” wine because it is the wine used in Churches every Sunday. I’ve never made wine from the raw grape ( only those wine kits) but I’m willing to try, if you know of the best method of making wine directly from the grape please pass it along to me and I’ll give it a shot !

I can’t believe it’s been 33 years today that Elvis died in his home at the age of 42. I was in the car with my grandparents on the way to their summer home in New Hampshire when the news came over the radio, everyone seems to know where they were when they heard the news. I was only 14 years old but I remember it like it was yesterday, I still have a copy of the New York times and the Boston Globe from that day. Thousands of Elvis fans flock to Graceland each year to mark the anniversary and this year was no exception as fans started lining up last night in 111 degree heat to walk passed his grave. I think I’ll head out of here and go fire up the record player and spend some time with the king, thankyou Elvis…thankyou very much.

Can you believe it’s August already ? As usual I ‘m way behind in getting projects and summer time goals completed that I carefully plan out in May. We have had a great summer as far as the weather goes and every time I head out to the yard to scrape and paint the trim on the house or attempt to organize the garage the lawn chair always wins out. I did manage to go camping this summer to the wilds of Black Lake with my wife and another couple , I actually heard coyotes howling which always helps one fall asleep in the woods.

The sun is out ,the temps are up and the boys of summer have hit the field! Baseball season kicked of yesterday with my hometown heroes , the Boston Red Sox , beating the New York Yankees in the season opener at Fenway park 9-7 in a real nail biter . Our own CITYtv softball team is laying the groundwork for another season as well as teams across the province. Pretty soon it will be opening day at “the Fishbowl” when the Winnipeg Goldeyes take the field. If you’ve never been to a Goldeyes game I highly suggest you take in a game or two this season, the price is right and the whole atmosphere is fantastic ! All this talk about great weather and baseball isn’t helping me sit at my desk any longer than I have to so it’s time for me to grab glove and head outside, I suggest you do the same because before you know it the season will slip by !

I’m very excited that the Winnipeg Art gallery has a great new exibit I can relate to, the art of Warner brothers ! I still ,at 47 years old, watch the old Warner Brothers cartoons any chance I get and I laugh harder each time even though I’ve seen those great cartoons a gazillion times. The animation quality is fantastic unlike the garbage they shove down kids throats these days, give me the rich hand drawn animation over the computer generated animation any day. The exibit has actual animation art used in those classic cartoons including Bugs Bunny ,Elmer Fudd and the whole gang as well as presentations on the golden age of animation. Give the Winnipeg Art Gallery a call for details at 789-1760 and enjoy a visit with some old friends from those childhood Saturday mornings, t-t-t-that’s all folks !

Only 10 days until March ! Spring training for major league baseball starts today in Florida, we had gardening on Breakfast television yesterday and the overnight parking ban on snow routes is over as of March 1st. It won’t be long folks until the snow is gone and the grass is green and it can’t come fast enough for me. I don’t mind winter weather but I am not a fan of the overnight snow route parking ban because my garage was built shortly after the “big bang”, it is an old one and it has a creeky door you have to lift because the garage is to unstable to hold a garage door opener. I really hope we have a nice spring and summer to make up for last years chilly and wet summer season, I’m a fan of the really hot weather and it would be nice to have that again. Are you ready for winter to leave us ? What are sure signs of spring for you ? I’m sitting at my desk here at CITYtv wrapping up this entry gazing out the window as it’s snowing so I guess we’ll all have to wait a little longer.

According to an online poll women were asked to take part in ,these are the top five worst gifts you can give to that special lady ; 1. gas station flowers 2. household items ( nothing says ” I love you” more than cleaning products ) 3. gym membership 4. cliche’ jewelry ( heart shaped anything ) 5. Lingerie ( you would have better luck with a new pair of “sweats” ) . There you go guys, good luck and let me know how it goes ! Ladies, please let me know the worst thing you ever recieved on Valentines day and also maybe some ideas for us guys who really do love you and want to show it without looking pathetic.

I love the Christmas season as much as the next guy but the season is over and it’s time to shut those outdoor Christmas lights off . You don’t have to climb up on a ladder and take your life in your hands trying to take the lights down , just don’t turn them on. Do you still have a jack-o-lantern on your front steps ? No you don’t ( I hope), so why would you still have your Christmas lights on ? Having said that, I must admit I did find an Easter egg under a bookcase in my living room in November. What do you think about this situation ? Am I just being a Scrooge? Drop me a line and let me know , I would love to hear from you !

I hope all is well with you as we head into 2010 and all it has to offer, thanks again for watching BT as we love having you along .

Well here it is again, December. With the excitement the holiday season brings it also triggers the ” I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO AND LITTLE TIME TO DO IT ALL” ! The shopping, decorating, baking and cleaning ( the best way to get the house clean is to have relatives come for the holidays) but this year I’m not going to panic…who am I kidding, of course I’m going to panic. I did manage to get the Christmas lights up on the house without killing myself or blowing any fuses this year, so far anyways. I will really make an effort to get my shopping done early instead of hitting 7 eleven on Christmas eve as per usual. I’m also a fan of saying ” Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays”, people have tried to correct me but it’s just the way it is…I’m old school that way. Well I’m off to get a jump start on my Christmas shopping, and this year I will not buy something for myself…yeah right.
