The boys of summer return !

posted on April 5th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

The sun is out ,the temps are up and the boys of summer have hit the field!  Baseball season kicked of yesterday with my hometown heroes , the Boston Red Sox , beating the New York Yankees in the season opener at Fenway park  9-7 in a real nail biter . Our own CITYtv softball team is laying the groundwork for another season as well as teams across the province. Pretty soon it will be opening day at “the Fishbowl” when the Winnipeg Goldeyes take the field. If you’ve never been to a Goldeyes game I highly suggest you take in a game or two this season, the price is right and the whole atmosphere is fantastic ! All this talk about great weather and baseball isn’t helping me sit at my desk any longer than I have to so it’s time for me to grab glove and head outside, I suggest you do the same because before you know it the season will slip by !

What’s up Doc ?

I’m very excited that the Winnipeg Art gallery has a great new exibit I can relate to, the art of Warner brothers ! I still ,at 47 years old, watch the old Warner Brothers cartoons any chance I get and I laugh harder each time even though I’ve seen those great cartoons a gazillion times. The animation quality is fantastic unlike the garbage they shove down kids throats these days, give me the rich hand drawn animation over the computer generated animation any day. The exibit has actual animation art used in those classic cartoons including Bugs Bunny ,Elmer Fudd and the whole gang as well as presentations on the golden age of animation. Give the Winnipeg Art Gallery a call for details at 789-1760 and enjoy a visit with some old friends from those childhood Saturday mornings, t-t-t-that’s all folks !

Signs of spring !

posted on February 18th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

Only 10 days until March ! Spring training for major league baseball starts today in Florida, we had gardening on Breakfast television yesterday and the overnight parking ban on snow routes is over as of March 1st. It won’t be long folks until the snow is gone and the grass is green and it can’t come fast enough for me. I don’t mind winter weather but I am not a fan of the overnight snow route parking ban because my garage was built shortly after the “big bang”, it is an old one and it has a creeky door you have to lift because the garage is to unstable to hold a garage door opener. I really hope we have a nice spring and summer to make up for last years chilly and wet summer season, I’m a fan of the really hot weather and it would be nice to have that again. Are you ready for winter to leave us ? What are sure signs of spring for you ? I’m sitting at my desk here at CITYtv wrapping up this entry gazing out the window as it’s snowing so I guess we’ll all have to wait a little longer.

Valentine’s day

Are you a fan of  Valentine’s  Day ? I ‘m not big into it really , mainly because of the pressure it puts on us guys ! The dinner, the flowers ,the chocolates and that’s taking a risk of looking cliche’ and who wants to look bad when you’re trying to “woo” her…yes, I said “woo”. According to an online poll women were asked to take part in ,these are the top five worst gifts you can give to that special lady ; 1. gas station flowers  2. household items ( nothing says ” I love you” more than cleaning products ) 3. gym membership 4. cliche’ jewelry ( heart shaped anything ) 5. Lingerie (  you would have better luck with a new pair of  “sweats” ) . There you go guys, good luck and let me know how it goes ! Ladies, please let me know the worst thing you ever recieved on Valentines day and also maybe some ideas for us guys who really do love you and want to show it without looking pathetic.

Lights off please !

I love the Christmas season as much as the next guy but the season is over and it’s time to shut those outdoor Christmas lights off . You don’t have to climb up on a ladder and take your life in your hands trying to take the lights down , just don’t turn them on. Do you still have a jack-o-lantern on your front steps ? No you don’t ( I hope), so why would you still have your Christmas lights on ? Having said that, I must admit I did find an Easter egg under a bookcase in my living room in November. What do you think about this situation ? Am I just being a Scrooge? Drop me a line and let me know , I would love to hear from you !

The Olympics are here !

posted on January 5th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

Today  on Breakfast television I was lucky enough to actually hold the Olympic torch  ! The forks market is all “a buzz” with the arrival of the torch today with all sorts of activities planned for the day and evening so head on down . The excitment fills that void that’s usually left after the rush of the Holidays ( which were great but I’m glad they’re over ). I hope all is well with you as we head into 2010 and all it has to offer, thanks again for watching BT as we love having you along .

Holiday rush !

posted on December 1st, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - 2 comments »

Well here it is again, December. With the excitement the holiday season brings it also triggers the ” I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO AND LITTLE TIME TO DO IT ALL” !  The shopping, decorating, baking and cleaning ( the best way to get the house clean is to have relatives come for the holidays) but this year I’m not going to panic…who am I kidding, of course I’m going to panic. I did manage to get the Christmas lights up on the house without killing myself or blowing any fuses this year, so far anyways. I will really make an effort to get my shopping done early instead of hitting 7 eleven on Christmas eve as per usual. I’m also a fan of saying ” Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays”, people have tried to correct me but it’s just the way it is…I’m old school that way. Well I’m off to get a jump start on my Christmas shopping, and this year I will not buy something for myself…yeah right.

Halloween is here !

One of my Favourite times of year has finally arrived ! I love halloween more than my kids I think, I over decorate the house and start planning my costume for Halloween around August. This Halloween BT will have an extra special guest on our set ( Friday October 30th), it’s BATMAN himself  ! Adam West will be here and we’ll find out what life was like when he was the “Caped Crusader” as TV’s Batman from 1966 to 1968, even though it was only on for two years it still remains as one of the classics and is still popular today. I’ve already raided the Halloween candy I bought for this year so I’ll have to buy more, Reese’s peanut butter cups are my all time fave…gotta’ have ‘em !

10 years already !

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since I started here with Breakfast television ! Back on September 28th 1999 “The Big Breakfast” hit the airwaves and we were off and running bringing you the best morning tv anywhere. Alot has changed over the years from the name of the show to new faces ( lot’s of them over the years ) to even my hair turning gray ! We have an absolute blast doing Breakfast Television, what you see is what you get with us as we really do have a ton of fun. I have so many great memories from over the years between the great guests I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing to the behind the scenes stuff that keeps us laughing throughout the morning . Do you have any favourite moments from watching BT ?  Drop a line and share them with us , we would love to hear them ! Well here’s to 10 more years of morning fun and great local programming on BT (  and more gray hair I’m sure ) .

Summer’s back !

posted on September 15th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

Well, well… look who decided to show up, SUMMER !  Remember when we had four distinct seasons when September meant falling leaves and a chill in the air ? Don’t get me wrong, I love this blast of summer weather but Ifeel bad for the kids sitting in hot classrooms trying to study. I went golfing yesterday with CITYtv’s Heather Steele and you would think it was mid July so Ihighly recommend you get out and enjoy this wonderful weather. Speaking of heating things up. KISS tickets go on sale this weekend for the big show in November and I plan on being there in full make up as I’ve been a member of the KISS army since 1979 ( sad really ), nothing like 60 year old men dancing around in spandex…yeeeeesh !
