Uptown Magazine on BT

One thing I’ve gotten extra excited about here on Breakfast Television lately (aside from reporting the sunshine!) is chatting with John Kendle from Uptown Magazine.

Basically we touch on a few of the big things happening here in Winnipeg each week - And let you know how you can get your foot in the door of the latest concert here in the city… or get your hands on the newest album from some of your favourite artists ( and some that likely WOULD be added to your list of favourites if you gave them a listen)!

Whether you’re a local indie rock groupie, or someone looking to broaden their musical or cultural palette – Uptown and Breakfast Television know how to help you find what you’re looking for.

He made his debut as a weekly regular last week – and you’ll be able to catch him every Thursday morning from now on!

See you in the morning!

Wow ! Winnipeg’s sports teams are on top of their game, between the Moose going to the playoffs and now the Goldeyes are #1 in their division ,Winnipeggers should be very proud . As you know Jimmy Mac is a huge hockey fan and I have a true passion for baseball, the difference is Jimmy plays hockey very well and I’m a pro bench warmer but I have fun . It’s all about getting out there and having a good time whether it’s a pick up game with your buddies or joining a team, just get out and enjoy our short summer.

CITYtv’s softball team “The greatest cricket team ever”  hits the diamond tonight for our first game of the season …and it’s raining. Hopefully the rain will stop , the clouds will part and the sun will shine down on us but it doesn’t look good as the rain is supposed to continue throughout the day. I guess it’s Mother nature’s way of postponing my pulled hamstring . Well, I’m going to go shake my fist at the rain, have a great day and thanks for watching BT !

Tribute to Mothers

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.”
– Cardinal Mermillod

I wanted to start this “Tribute to Mothers” post with a quote that could sum up the importance of mothers in our lives.  This is a hard task, especially if your mother is someone who means a lot of different things to you.  That’s why I chose this quote by Cardinal Mermillod.

Our mothers can be our teachers, our friends, our confidantes… and would find a way to be anything else we needed.

My mom is my best friend.  She always knows what to say when I’m upset, she knows how to make me laugh, and she is one of the best people to shop with, have a glass of wine with, or do absolutely nothing with.

Even though I’m not a mother myself, I know that when that day comes… (FAR, FAR INTO THE FUTURE!) I will be ready because I’ve had the best teacher.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL THE MOMS OUT THERE!

Red House ad !

Today on Bt we played the now famous Red House furniture commercial from North Carolina during our “web funnies” segment (  click the link below and check it out). It has been shown on CNN and made headlines across North America because of it’s content. Some say it’s racial and others see it as no problem at all and don’t understand what all of the fuss is about. Let me know what you think .

I don’t know if you noticed but it snowed a little today, it’s May for crying out loud and it just seems wrong. I know we’re “hearty Winnipeggers” but this is too much already !!! I want to get out in my yard and get the gardens going, fire up the BBQ and complain about the heat. Actually once the hot summer days get here I won’t complain about the heat, after this weather on top of the winter we had I’ll never complain about the heat again . Enough of my ranting, check out the Red House ad and have a great weekend!

Shelter from the Storm

posted on May 5th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

Well, it’s finally happened!  I have hopped on the “blogging bandwagon”.

I’m going to start things off by talking a bit about a campaign we discussed on the show today.  “Shelter from the Storm” is a national initiative dedicated to ending violence against women.

Our sister station on the radio side of Rogers is hosting a radiothon on May 7th at HomeSense on Kenaston.  All the money raised from the campaign will support Manitoba shelters for abused women and their children, and community violence prevention programs.

Domestic violence is an important issue that often gets pushed under the rug.  But the reality is that this affects real women, right here in our own community.  I think it’s really important that we get out the message of hope for women struggling with abusive situations.

Before May 10th, you can donate by stopping by any BMO Bank of Montreal Branch, Winners or HomeSense locations.  For more information on domestic violence, visit shelterfromthestorm.ca.
